Hops are a perennial vine that can grow up to 35′ tall, and prefer to climb trellising or string. The plant is covered in stiff spines that allow it to climb, and it often needs some training. Leaves are palmate with 3-5 deep lobes. Flowers are fragrant and attract butterflies! Hops plants prefer growing in full sun, and can provide seasonal shade. The chemical compounds found in the flowers are used in the bittering and flavoring of beer. ‘Crystal’ is known for woodsy, green, floral and fruity flavors with herb and spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. This is an extremely versatile hop, often used for its aromatic qualities in IPAs and Bitters.
