Hops are a perennial vine that can grow up to 35′ tall, and prefer to climb trellising or string. The plant is covered in stiff spines that allow it to climb, and it often needs some training. Leaves are palmate with 3-5 deep lobes. Flowers are fragrant and attract butterflies! Hops plants prefer growing in full sun, and can provide seasonal shade. The chemical compounds found in the flowers are used in the bittering and flavoring of beer. ‘Columbus’ is known for its punchy hoppy-ness and deep aroma with subtle notes of citrus.
